Fall Shows Post in HD with Avid DS Nitris

Avid DS Nitris is the post-production tool of choice for 28 primetime shows this season.

"Third Watch, "Malcolm in the Middle" episodes of "American Dreams," and "Eight Simple Rules" and others are being finished by in Los Angeles-based post-production facilities such as Technicolor Creative Services and Modern VideoFilm.

Reality shows, "Casino" and "The Benefactor" are created using end-to-end HD workflows from capture to air, while shows such as "Malcolm," still captured on film, have made the switch from SD to HD in the finishing process.

Ascent Media companies Encore and Level 3 use the Avid system for compositing, color correction and editing.

Bill Romeo, senior vice president, sales and marketing of Ascent Media, said that more than 70 percent of the projects in the company's facilities use HD at some stage during post.

Los Angeles-based Modern VideoFilm is finishing nearly 95 percent of its prime-time shows in HD, according to President Moshe Barkat.

"There's no question that HD has arrived in full force," he said.
