ESPN Buys Vistas Unlimited

ESPN has announced the acquisition of Vistas Unlimited, a technology development company located in Plano, Texas. The deal will bolster ESPN’s user of virtual technology on multiple delivery platforms.

“This acquisition represents ESPN’s dedication to staying at the forefront of innovation and technology development,” said Chuck Pagano, executive vice president, ESPN technology. “The team that is joining ESPN brings a wealth of knowledge on developing cutting-edge virtual components that enhance the fan’s enjoyment of a game telecast.”

Vistas Unlimited is recognized for their development of computer technology for delivering virtual insertions within live broadcasts. The company received the George Wensel Technical Achievement Award at the 29th Annual Sports Emmy Awards in 2008, based on the Vistas Unlimited’s development of video processing and insertion technology for depicting optimal putt paths in golfing events.

ESPN said that under the agreement reached with the company a majority of the Vistas’ employees would be retained.
