Discovery Networks automates with OmniBus

OmniBus automation is helping Discovery make an enterprise-wide transition to file-based platforms with its Colossus network-based automation and content management.

Ascent Media Network Services’ origination facilities in London and Singapore as well as the Discovery owned-and-operated Discovery Television and Technology Center in Sterling, VA, have implemented OmniBus Systems' Colossus network-based automation and content management for the reliable and efficient playout of Discovery Communications content.

By managing transmission processes from ingest to playout at all three facilities, OmniBus automation is helping Discovery make an enterprise-wide transition to file-based platforms. In addition to bringing efficiency to the playout infrastructure, Colossus enables Discovery to repurpose its assets in a highly intuitive way.

Colossus features a timeline-based, multichannel automation and control system that can scale as the need arises. The system facilitates increases in channel output, with tools for ingest, quality assurance, content management, workflow management, and interfacing with archive systems. The Colossus system has been integrated with an Omneon Spectrum media server system to provide language-stacking functionality that significantly simplifies multilingual playout. As a result, Ascent or Discovery's operators who are managing broadcasts can match video files to corresponding audio in a number of languages.
