Consumer electronics provider Matsushita will furnish Comcast with set-top boxes starting next year. The cable operator has approximately 21 million U.S. customers.
Matsushita--based in Osaka--will start selling set-tops in April 2005 and expects about to ship 300,000 set tops per year, totalling $181 million in annual sales in three years, according to Munetsugu Takeda, a company spokesperson.
"We've been developing hardware and software as digital television proliferates, and the timing was right in the U.S.," Takeda said.
