CBS expands its mobile offerings to the Sprint TV platform

CBS last week announced that starting this month it will be delivering full-length episodes of its primetime programming to the Sprint TV mobile television platform. The network recently inked a similar deal with Verizon Wireless to provide full-length programming and clips for that company's V Cast mobile TV service.

CBS content on Sprint TV-enabled handsets will include full episodes of "Jericho" on demand, video clips from such shows as "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "CSI: Miami," "CSI: NY," "Numb3rs" and "Survivor," and daily clips from "The Late Show With David Letterman" and "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson." Other clips from various programming divisions of CBS will also be provided.

The ad-supported service may prove to be a valuable way for the broadcaster to add revenue to its coffers by repurposing its most popular content, and possibly a case study for other broadcasters looking for an effective mobile TV business model. Cyric Roeding, executive VP of CBS Mobile and CBS Interactive, mentioned in a recent press statement that his company was "on the forefront of providing a scalable advertising solution for media buyers who want ad time on CBS's mobile video content."
