Canada: HD Hockey Night is Underway

Run for your lives! Canadian hockey pucks are flying everywhere in HD! On Nov. 5, the CBC launched its weekly "Hockey Night in Canada" for the new season, which often allows HD viewers to actually see the puck whiz across the ice and into the net. (It has always been a bit of a blur in the analog realm.)

Each Saturday Night, the first game of a doubleheader, the pre-game show hosted by Ron MacLean, and the Coach's Corner during the first intermission of game one will be aired in HD. (The second game will remain in SD.) But on Saturday, Jan. 7, viewers can watch the second game in HD, too, of the CBC's traditional all-Canadian NHL tripleheaders, as the Edmonton Oilers host Toronto.

The Canadian Football League on the CBC will also offer HD coverage of CFL playoffs, including the Scotiabank West Division Championship on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. EST, and the 93rd Grey Cup Championship in Vancouver, B.C., at 5:30 p.m. EST.
