Brazilian Broadcaster Upgrades With Tandberg Distribution System

Brazilian broadcaster TV Globo recently purchased an end-to-end Tandberg Television system for nationwide digital distribution. The system will replace Globo's analog network for national distribution from its Rio de Janeiro studios to REDE GLOBO's affiliate stations in Brazil.

Globo network selected the Tandberg system after testing in trials with other vendors. Globo cited Tandberg's 8PSK satellite modulation, encoding quality and system management and control as factors in the choice.

The system uses Tandberg-developed satellite modulation systems, which will enable TV Globo to save bandwidth and lower the satellite transponder costs for the network. The core of the platform is a Tandberg director network management and control system, which provides security for all network distribution from one NT platform. The redundant video compression system is comprised of Tandberg E5720 encoders, MX5620 multiplexers and SM5600 8PSK satellite modulators.
