Bourbon St. HD Taps Thales Angenieux for Telephoto Lens

Bourbon Street HD, an HD cinematography production facility has selected the Thales Angenieux 26x7.8 HD telephoto lens for action sports, documentary and commercial projects.

Recently used for the U.S. Open of Snowboarding in Stratford, Vt., the lens offers a focal range of 7.8mm to 203mm and a fast aperture of f/2.2. The 4.1-pound lens has a rectangular sunshade to minimize light interference and is resistant to condensation, dust and rain.

Digital features of the lens include selectable zoom/focus sensitivity adjustment, an anti-breathing feature to maintain field of view when focusing, RS-232 control and the France-based company's assisted internal focus (AIF) technology for precise focus control.

John Bourbonais, director of photography and chief camera operator at Bourbon Street said he likes the versatility of the lens. "Whether the subject matter is athletic, music or documentary, the 26x7.8 takes a viewer to a place only previously seen from the large "box type" lenses or cameras requiring an additional base plate for lens support," he said.
