AT&T's Cingular to Offer MediaFLO

AT&T's Cingular has inked a deal to offer Qualcomm's MediaFLO mobile TV services.

The deal, which was announced on Feb. 12, adds AT&T to the MediaFLO stable of carriers; Verizon, the nation's second largest wireless provider, is launching MediaFLO on its network within the coming months. Services on AT&T's network will be launched on specially designed cell phones that will have access to advanced features that MediaFLO plans to roll out this year. These include a multicast video distribution service, a datacasting application and audio services.

"MediaFLO USA's service will add another dimension to our robust offering by delivering a TV-quality mobile media experience that perfectly complements our existing voice and multimedia services," said Marc Lefar, chief marketing officer for AT&T's wireless unit. "We look forward to bringing our subscribers a compelling, differentiated service and the innovative devices for which AT&T is known."

The MediaFLO service will complement existing voice, data and video-on-demand services from AT&T.
