ATI Radeon Unveils HD Upgrade Graphics Card for Computers

AMD said it plans to begin shipping its upgraded ATI Radeon HD 3870 graphics card for Mac and PC computers by the end of June.

AMD said the new card is designed for the PCI Express slots of the Mac Pro system (both the first and second generations). It holds 512MB of 256-bit GDDR4 frame-buffer memory, as well as 320 stream processors. It’s designed as a graphics upgrade for Mac Pros (including those equipped with the Nvidia GeForce 8800 card). All ATI cards come with S-Video connectors for direct attachment to analog TV sets.

AMD said its next-gen 3870 card has two dual-link DVI interfaces, capable of driving a 30-inch Apple Cinema HD display, AMD said.
