Apple and Akamai extend streaming media pact
By TVTechnology published
Apple Computer and Akamai Technologies have extended their agreement for global distribution of audio and video programming over the Internet. The companies have been working together since 1999.
Based in Cambridge, Mass., Akamai provides the worldwide infrastructure to support content delivery and software downloads for Apple.com, including the computer maker’s popular QuickTime movie trailers site. It also serves as the backbone for Apple’s QuickTime Streaming Operations.
The Akamai EdgeSuite platform provides the network architecture that handles file distribution for Apple’s newly announced iTunes Music Store, which uses the AAC audio component of MPEG-4.
