ActiveVideo cloud-based technology to support Blockbuster on-demand service

Video rental chain Blockbuster and ActiveVideo Networks, a provider of cloud-based interactive video delivery technology, have announced an agreement designed to enhance the subscriber's experience of the Blockbuster On Demand movie service across multiple connected platforms.

The deal combines the extensive content library of Blockbuster On Demand with the ability of ActiveVideo to process the Web-based user interface in the network “cloud. Viewers will be able to search, find and view titles of interest by incorporating previews and trailers, as well as Web-based search and recommendation capabilities.

The ActiveVideo CloudTV platform can enable rich user interfaces to any digital set-top box or broadband connected consumer electronics device. Blockbuster currently has about 125,000 movie and game titles and 2 million daily customers.

ActiveVideo is available in nearly 5 million homes. It uses intelligent MPEG streaming to deliver the web 2.0 experience to its television audience through both legacy and next-generation digital set-top boxes and broadband-connected devices.
