Acer Introduces HD DVD PC to North America

Acer America Corp. began shipping its 20.1-inch widescreen Aspire 9800 HD notebook PC with an HD DVD drive to North America this week.

The laptop will be marketed to home users, students and SOHO (small office/home office) professionals who require advanced graphic design and visuals, games, and full-length motion pictures on HD DVD discs. The PC provides a digital and analog hybrid TV tuner and remote. The unit was first introduced in June at Computex Taipei.

The notebook incorporates Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology processing, Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 graphic chipsets, system memory up to 4 GB DDR2, and 240 GB Intel Matrix serial ATA hard drives. The company said the unit's 8 ms gray-to-gray response time is suitable for both HD multimedia content and maximizes playback quality.
