3D Day Coming to HD Expo

Whizzes from 3D development labs including Sony Pictures Imageworks, RealD, Main Street and 3ality will unleash the secrets of high-definition 3D technology with a full day of highly anticipated panels and screenings at HDExpo Nov. 8 in Burbank.

The presentations will include “A Multidimensional Conversation About 3D,” featuring industry-leading 3D experts, followed by a screening of the most compelling new content headed to screens in the next few months.

Joshua Greer of RealD and Steve Schklair of 3ality, who play key roles in acquisition, post production and delivery of 3D digital content, are among the expected panelists. Attendees will also hear from Buzz Hayes, senior producer at Sony Pictures Imageworks, whose credits include “Beowulf,” “Monster House” and “The Chronicles of Riddick,” among others. Another invited expert, Aaron Parry, is president and founder of Main Street Pictures and an alum of Walt Disney Feature Animation now working on 3D projects at Paramount Pictures and other companies.

Screening 3D material from “U2 3D” and “Beowulf,” the panel will discuss the creation and distribution of 3D content and address intriguing questions about the emerging marketplace as 3D becomes widespread.

“3D has arrived and the furor is fueled by A-List creatives including Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson and Robert Zemeckis,” said Kristin Petrovich, CEO of HD Expo. “Jeffrey Katzenberg has referred to 3D as ’the single most revolutionary change since color pictures.’ That kind of commentary, plus seeing this phenomenal footage, made this a must-see-HDExpo event.”

The Multidimensional Conversation and 3D Screening is Thurs., Nov. 8, from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. HD Expo runs Nov. 8 and 9 at the Burbank Marriott Convention Center.
