Sony Europe launches Media Restoration Center

Sony Europe formed the Sony Recording Media Restoration Centre (Sony RMRC)—an initiative designed to help customers preserve and protect their tape and film-based archive in the digital era.

The RMRC project was initiated as Sony’s response to European Union directives. It is a pan-European initiative that combines the resources of Sony’s French tape production operation and its optical media center based outside Salzburg, Austria.

Sony RMRC offers services ranging from film processing, digital audio and video processing, tape cleaning and restoration, format conversion, data storage, waste management, and digital asset management. These operations can take place at the Sony RMRC or alternatively on-site at the customer premises.

The service level is decided by each customer. For media asset management, Sony RMRC offers consultancy, system design and integration, as well as management services for digital asset stores where all material can be browsed, searched and retrieved on demand.
