At NAB2005 this week, the new Snell & Wilcox SD/HD Kahuna production switcher was used as part of the NAB-HD, a fully functional, multi-vendor NAB2005 demonstration of what local broadcast stations can achieve with digital technology.
The Kahuna was in the Greene HD Productions mobile unit, which was being used for studio operations and control.
The Kahuna integrates SD and HD sources in a single control panel and mainframe, without the need for upconversion. It allowed Greene HD Productions to switch SD and HD signals for the NAB-HD broadcasts with minimal reconfiguration of equipment within its truck.
