Korea's EBS establishes multichannel broadcasts with Omneon Spectrum server system

Omneon Video Networks has announced that Education Broadcasting Station (EBS), Korea's largest free-to-air public education broadcaster, is using an Omneon Spectrum media server system to provide redundant playout of four channels. The modular Spectrum system delivered through digital media system consultancy group IISN Systems gives EBS a reliable, scalable and space-efficient platform for multichannel transmission from the broadcaster's Seoul facility.

EBS has replaced four legacy video file servers with its new Omneon Spectrum server system, which comprises main and backup playout systems for redundant and reliable 24-hour playout. HD MPEG-2 media is being stored on the server system in 30Mb/s-50Mb/s long-GOP format, while SD MPEG-2 media is stored in 10Mb/s long-GOP format. The overall capacity of the current server configuration is approximately 150 hours at 50Mb/s long GOP.
