Iceland Telecom taps Thales and IBM for IPTV and VOD

Iceland Telecom has selected Thales and IBM for help with its pilot launch of live TV and video on demand (VOD) services by the end of 2004.

Thales and IBM have teamed up to provide Iceland Telecom with a solution that features Thales’ SmartVision broadband service platform based on IBM's open architecture infrastructure and its WebSphere middleware. Thales will provide the delivery and integration of the service in the existing broadcast and broadband network of the Icelandic operator.

SmartVision comprises IBM's BladeCenter with its two versions, BladeCenter and BladeCenter-T and x-Series. Iceland Telecom will also be able to add other IBM eServer blades into the BladeCenter-T to run any third party software.

Iceland Telecom is one of the first companies to benefit from the joint IBM-Thales solution for IP television and video on demand.
