GlobeCast’s Athens media center proves popular with broadcasters


GlobeCast's media center in Athens is a one-stop studio and transmission hub for their clients' coverage of the Games.

France Telecom subsidiary GlobeCast is operating a media center in Athens for use by non-Olympics rights holding broadcasters as a one-stop studio and transmission hub for their coverage from the games.

Globecast, a supplier of satellite services for international sporting events, has provided facilities for: CBS, Comedy Central's The Daily Show with John Stewart and Coca Cola Radio in the United States; Australia's Channel 10 and Sky News Australia; Mexico's TV Azteca; Serbian BK TV; French channel Equidia and Dutch broadcaster NOS.

Other new contracts include: NTV, Japan; Metro TV, Jakarta, Indonesia; Geo, Pakistan; Sahara TV, India and Beijing TV from China. Beijing TV's online partner, Sports.CN is also using the broadcast base to transmit a 1.5MB channel via PAS3 to its Web site for live coverage of the games.

The company’s broadcast base is providing studios, work space, playout, conversion, stand up and mobile SNG, in addition to global satellite and fiber connectivity.
