German OB company WIGE replaces CRTs with LCD monitors in truck

Most of the BCM 108 DB monitors were mounted as pairs in the 19in rack-style monitor wall.

German Outside Broadcast (OB) van company WIGE in Frechen/Cologne, has replaced CRT monitors in its truck FÜ4 with LCD monitors to become the company’s first teleproduction vehicle to operate without the tube technology.

WIGE selected the Tamuz BCM series, including the BCM 108 DB, BCM 115 DB and BCM 120 DB to replace the CRTs. The LCD monitors along with several customized LCM models were installed last month in the OB van’s control room, engineering room and editing area. WIGE replaced its CRT monitors in the vehicle to save space and energy and reduce weight.

When taken together with other new technology, including a video production switcher from Thomson, the truck becomes a fully digital work center capable of operating in 4:3 and 16:9.
