Comcast launches ON DEMAND service in Dallas

SeaChange VOD system, based around its MediaCluster server technology, is helping Comcast make 1200 programming hours of programming available on-demand for 300,000 Digital Cable customers in Dallas.

Comcast has announced the Dallas launch of its ON DEMAND video-on-demand (VOD) service, bringing nearly 300,000 customers in the city’s metropolitan area the opportunity to select from more than 1200 programming hours.

SeaChange International has provided Comcast with the technology platform for its ON DEMAND service as it has been deployed in many cable systems throughout the country. The SeaChange VOD system incorporates the company’s patented MediaCluster servers, end-to-end automation software and real-time broadcast recording gear.

ON DEMAND offers Comcast Digital Cable customers the ability to choose from movies, music, sports, news, instructional and entertainment programming. In addition, viewers can rewind, fast-forward and pause programs, and can store most selections for up to 24 hours from the time of ordering, so they can watch shows whenever and however often they like. An interactive, on-screen programming guide makes selecting from the library of ON DEMAND content quick and easy.

The majority of ON DEMAND programming is available at no additional charge over the cost of Comcast Digital Cable service. Customers can order hit films for $3.99 each, and movie library titles for $2.99, as well as premium programming from HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and Starz!, if they subscribe to these services.

SeaChange helps drive the on-demand business with highly automated and fault-resilient digital video systems. SeaChange VOD systems provide more than one million on-demand streams in over 100 deployments, including 17 of the top 25 television markets.
