WGBH Introduces Captioning Software
By TVTechnology published
The WGBH National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) has released CaptionKeeper a new Web-streaming program for deaf and hard of hearing people.
Using existing closed-captioning data, CaptionKeeper migrates video to the Web with captions intact so they don't need to be re-captioned. CaptionKeeper can also be used archive digital video.
"By making this technology available to the public, we hope to encourage companies and institutions to make their Web-based media available to a more diverse audience," said Larry Goldberg, director of NCAM and the WGBH Media Access Group.
The Boston-based public broadcaster also released MAGpie, a free DIY tool for captioning and audio description, designed for people who are blind or have vision difficulties.
