Wegener Unveils Next-Gen Network Control System

At NAB, Wegener Corp. took the wraps off its next-generation Compel II network control system, which retains the patented features of the Compel network control system while adding features to enhance the interface and simplify dynamic media distribution.

The Compel II control system unifies different screens and utilities within a single Web-based graphical user interface. Using a Web browser, operators can control live and file-based media distribution networks from any Web-enabled remote location.

The scalable open architecture of Compel II allows network administrators to limit access to features and functions for employees or affiliates as their jobs require. New setup features let administrators create classes of users that designate level of access. Users are identified by classification, and the GUI is automatically reconfigured upon login.

Compel networks can manage from 10 to more than 100,000 receivers. Now with support for SQL databases, Compel II enables the search, import, and export of databases for network management and reporting. A new site-addressing feature streamlines database entry for sites with multiple receivers.

“We designed the new features for Compel II based on extensive customer feedback,” said Ned L. Mountain, president and chief operating officer, Wegener. “These user-friendly features streamline the workflow, making it faster and easier for our customers to manage their networks and give permissioned access to their workers and contractors.”

Compel II will be available later this year and will offer backward compatibly to existing Compel networks.
