Volicon Logs Upgrades to Observer

Volicon will come to IBC2008 with its turnkey digital video archiving and streaming solutions, led by its Observer multichannel video monitoring and logging system. It captures, stores, and indexes broadcast content from multiple channels, offering users simultaneous, 24/7 access to video from desktop computers.

The latest rendition, Observer 5.0 brings new features for greater flexibility in different monitoring situations, including monitoring and recording of HD content. The new system also now enables operators to obtain closed captions from CEA-708 HD video streams through extraction of EIA-608 closed-caption data. It now supports Dolby 5.1 and bit-rates higher than 3 Mbps for improved HD monitoring. The Content Export module, which enables batch and scheduled exporting, now provides support for exporting of closed-captioning data.

Volicon is also bringing new modules for the Observer. The Producer lets broadcasters capture and repurpose content in a variety of formats and provides operators with an easy-to-use platform for browsing and searching aired content that has been recorded by the Observer.

A new QoE (quality-assurance/quality-of-experience) module provides an automated method for analyzing a video image to detect macroblocking, a process that traditionally has required human intervention to spot on-screen anomalies.

The company will also demonstrate the RPM 100, a new entry-level version of the Observer RPM for automated, multichannel content and signal quality analysis.

Volicon will be at Stand 7.H09.
