TANDBERG Television demos next-generation digital terrestrial architecture

TANDBERG Television unveiled an end-to-end headend and distribution solution for next-generation digital terrestrial television (DTT) at IBC2008 in Amsterdam.

TANDBERG Television demonstrated its latest generation MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC encoding for SD and HD television, IP statistical multiplexing and IP streaming as part of its iSIS 8000 IP headend solution for DTT. The company showed how DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-H video streams can be processed in the same headend, and highlighted the efficiencies of using IP transport for all current and future over-the-air broadcast services. TANDBERG Television receiver/decoders, transport stream processing, nCompass management system, and Ericsson point-to-point microwave products completed the DTT offering.

The next-generation DTT solution uses IP from end-to-end. The iSIS 8000 IP head-end combines encoding with TANDBERG Television’s MX8400 multiplexer, a multi-transport dense IP statistical multiplexer that supports both single-frequency network (SFN) and IP streaming adaptation.

At the transmitter site, TANDBERG Television’s TT1260 integrated receiver decoders (IRDs) provides the IP-to-ASI/SDI output for the transmitters, protecting SFN enabled transports. For regional programming, the TT6120 edge processor provides one of the potential edge solutions.
