Studio Technologies launches all-digital surround monitor control systems

Studio Technologies will launch the all-digital StudioComm 76DB/77B Surround Monitoring System at NAB (Booth C11843). With its digital outputs, the system is especially well suited for broadcast master control rooms with digital-input loudspeakers, eliminating the need for an add-on analog-to-digital converter. Maintaining the fidelity of the 5.1 digital signals from source to loudspeaker ensures the full benefit of their investment in digital, both in loudspeakers and routing infrastructure.

The broadcast-optimized StudioComm 76DB/77B surround monitoring system consists of the compact 77B control console connected to a rack-mounted 76DB central controller. Just 7.2in by 5.4in, the freestanding 77B console offers fingertip control over all monitoring functions, while the 76DB handles the digital signal I/O and source selection, enabling one-touch console control of monitoring functions like downmix, channel solo, level adjustment, reference level and dim. The system also offers flexible source selection, Dolby E dialnorm support and a two-channel auxiliary monitor output for applications such as monitoring event-site cues. Two 5.1 surround inputs and three stereo inputs are provided, with both prefade and postfade 5.1 surround outs.

The StudioComm 76DB/77B features digital inputs, digital outputs and a sync input that supports video, word clock, DARS and AES3id. A 340ms digital delay compensates for processing delays in the video path. The system accommodates multiple control locations within a room, allowing up to four controller modules, including the smaller 71 central controller.

Studio Technologies will also be introducing the StudioComm 76D/77 surround monitoring system for recording and post-production applications. Both surround monitoring systems are now shipping.
