Soundcraft Vi6 goes mobile

DIGI TV Mobiltelevision, of Germany, has installed Soundcraft’s new Vi6 digital audio console into an outside broadcast vehicle.

Supplied by Audio Pro Heilbronn, the Soundcraft Vi6 was installed in DIGI TV’s OB3, a 16-camera mobile unit that is regularly used to provide coverage of sports events for German television. OB3, based in Stuttgart, is more than 50ft and has a fully expanded width of nearly 12ft, capable of housing four separate production rooms: audio control, video production, video control and an editing/VTR studio.

Soundcraft’s Vi6 system consists of a control surface, the local rack containing the SCore Live processing engine, and a stagebox, which connects to the local rack via Cat 5 or Cat 7 cable. Fiber-optic interfacing is available as an option.

The 32-fader control surface delivers simultaneous mixing of 64 mono inputs into 35 outputs, with 24 insert send/return pairs assignable to any of the input or output channels. All input channels can have direct outputs in addition to their internal routing to 32 group/aux/matrix busses, and the main LCR and LR busses.

The system uses a combination of Soundcraft ultra-low noise mic amp designs and Studer 40-bit floating point digital audio processing. Security is assured by diagnostics of the separate control surface, local rack and stagebox power supplies from the mixing position.
