(click thumbnail)Snell & Wilcox Ph.CAmong its numerous products at IBC2008, Snell & Wilcox will show the latest addition to its Alchemist Ph.C family of conversion products. The Alchemist Ph.C—HD TX motion-compensated frame-rate standards converter provides simultaneous SD and HD conversion in one compact 3-RU mainframe, giving facilities a convenient and cost-effective means of entering the international HD program exchange market and delivering content via fixed services or ad hoc links.

It leverages S&W’s proprietary Ph.C motion compensation technology to provide virtually transparent, HD frame-rate conversion between 50 Hz and 60 Hz HD standards for both 1080i and 720p formats, as well as SD frame-rate conversion between 50 Hz and 60 Hz material. It’s designed specifically for the needs of teleports.

Also at IBC, the MachHD is a low-cost, compact motion-compensated HD and SD standards converter and format converter with synchronization capability. It offers multirate HD/SD inputs and outputs, and is capable of providing upconversion, downconversion, and crossconversion both within and between frame rates. It handles embedded AES (balanced and unbalanced) and analog audio, and offers a range of additional features such as aspect ratio conversion and colorspace conversion.

For further frame-rate conversion needs, Snell & Wilcox will introduce the HD CVR700 SD/HD linear frame-rate converter and the HD TBS700 SD/HD synchronizer. These expand the range of the Kudos Plus family.

The HD CVR700 performs linear conversion between 50 Hz and 60 Hz SD and HD standards, including both 1080i and 720p HD formats. It also provides HDTV upconversion, downconversion, and crossconversion to any frame rate.

The Kudos Plus HD TBS700 is an HD synchronizer that includes HD upconversion, downconversion, and crossconversion to formats of the same frame rate. It also provides synchronization for SD sources

Snell & Wilcox will also introduce the new Kahuna 1 M/E HD, delivering the multiformat performance of its flagship Kahuna production switcher in a 3 RU frame. It offers a substantial feature set in an entry-level solution for broadcasters seeking the flexibility of a multiformat production environment to enable a gradual, controlled transition to HDTV. Designed for live production environments, it features FormatFusion image processing technology, enabling seamless, real-time mixing of SD and HD video, in any format.

For the first time at IBC, Snell & Wilcox will demonstrate powerful new DVE capabilities for its Kahuna line including a “Fluid Effects” feature that allows operators to wrap live video around animated models for a highly sophisticated look in live production.

Snell & Wilcox will also display a variety of new products for its IQ Modular intelligent infrastructure; its IQHIP00, a second-generation Hyperion quality-control engine; RollMap V3.1 control and monitoring system; and QC Station, an automated quality assurance system.

Snell & Wilcox will be at Stand 8.B77.
