SMPTE to host digital cinema session at NAB2005

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers will host and produce its Digital Cinema Session April 16 at NAB2005.

The SMPTE session will cover the science, engineering, testing, standards, economic, regulatory and political issues surrounding the implementation of Digital Cinema. Morning tutorials will cover technical aspects of digital cinema. As part of the standards process and testing for digital cinema, the session will include presentations from various stakeholders. The latest advances in projection technology will be explored including new 4K systems.

The afternoon sessions will include reports on the standards process, presentations from European, Asian and other proponents; current digital cinema operators; and a panel on the political and regulatory landscape.

SMPTE President Edward Hobson of National TeleConsultants will host the Digital Cinema Session. Other key organizers include SMPTE Engineering Vice President Peter Symes of Thomson Grass Valley, Chair DC28 SMPTE Wendy Aylsworth of Warner Brothers, and SMPTE Engineering Director for Motion Pictures Tom Scott of ednet.
