Shure debuts USB mics, XLR-to-USB adapter at NAMM

Shure introduced its first USB audio devices at the recent NAMM show, including two studio-style microphones and an XLR-to-USB signal adapter. The PG27USB and PG42USB are side-address condenser microphones designed to plug into any USB computer port on a plug-and-play basis. The X2u is a tubular signal adapter with an XLR connector on one side and USB on the other, allowing any low-impedance professional microphone to be instantly interfaced to a computer. All three products feature built-in, zero-latency headphone monitoring and monitor mix control.

The X2u signal adapter is compatible with both Windows (Vista, XP, 2000) and Mac OS X operating systems without external drivers and features an integrated preamp with input gain control. There is also a 1/8in headphone jack for monitoring and a monitor mix control for blending the mic’s output with playback audio. The unit also provides 48V phantom power for condenser mics.

The PG27USB and its XLR counterpart, the PG27, are designed for accurate reproduction of musical instruments, with a neutral response shape. The PG42 and PG42USB, on the other hand, offer a response engineered specifically for lead vocals. Both versions feature large diaphragm capsules, integrated preamp with gain control and the same monitoring and mix controls found on the X2u adapter.

The new Shure USB-compatible recording microphones and adapter are scheduled to ship this spring.
