Newtek’s TriCaster streamed NHL All-Star game online

The National Hockey League chose Newtek’s TriCaster, a portable television production and virtual set system, to stream the Cisco 2008 NHL All-Star All-Access Show live on the Internet.

Televised on Jan. 27 on NHL.com, the show preceded the 2008 National Hockey League All-Star Game and gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the event from Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA.

Tricasters, which come in various models, are truly portable — about the size of a shoe box — and weigh about 10lbs for setup in small spaces. The basic unit can quickly connect and mix three composite or S-Video cameras, and easily add titles and graphics on the fly.

An integrated VCR lets the user play back video clips without having external tape decks or DVD players. Users can also easily add in PC or Mac displays as an additional video source, and enjoy the flexibility of simultaneous output to broadcast, projector and live Internet stream for both in-house and remote audiences.

The NHL, NBA and Fox Sports have all found the Tricaster to be an ideal tool for reaching audiences online and realizing additional revenue stream opportunities.
