NAB to run model DTV station at convention

At NAB2005 April 16-21 in Las Vegas, short interviews with exhibitors and attendees will be broadcast in SD and HD throughout the Las Vegas Convention Center. Pictured: NAB2004 attendees watch a presentation at the Apple booth.

As the digital transition at over-the-air TV stations progresses and HD becomes an evermore-relevant issue, the NAB plans to construct and operate a model local TV station outputting both SD and HD at its annual convention April 16-21 in Las Vegas.

The NAB wants to enhance and promote educational show content and demonstrate the implementation and operation of a DTV station. Programming material from the station, which will be located in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, will be distributed to hotel rooms, in shuttle busses and at the convention center. The station also will stream its content via the Internet for those not attending the show.

Program content will include:

  • Short interviews with exhibitors and guests.
  • Prerecorded presentations and interviews with engineering and management figures on specific issues faced when implementing DTV.
  • Recorded roundtable discussions shot on the NAB-HD set and recorded for scheduled playback.
