MediaCorp takes on tapeless news workflow

MediaCorp, one of Southeast Asia’s premiere broadcasters, has migrated its entire newsgathering operations in Singapore to a new file-based production workflow based on technology from Thomson.

Thomson’s Systems Solutions Group designed and installed the system. Thomson engineers began training MediaCorp operations staff in March and handed over the entire operation in July.

The new digital news production facility in Singapore is based on numerous Thomson Grass Valley Aurora editing workstations and K2 HD media servers, configured in a storage area network (SAN). Other Thomson Grass Valley equipment installed as part of an SD-SDI infrastructure includes an Encore facility control system, Concerto Series SD/HD routing system as well as GeckoFlex and Kameleon signal distribution and conversion products. The K2 SAN and Aurora editing and media management platform is supporting more than 200 journalists and producers.
