CCTV relies on new UHF combiner from RFS

China Central TV (CCTV) transmitted HDTV of the Summer Olympics to viewers in the nation’s capital for Beijing Olympics Broadcasting (BOB) with the help of a new UHF combining system from Radio Frequency Systems (RFS).

In May, CCTV went on air with two new digital channels, including one HDTV channel dedicated to world-class sports broadcasting. A three-channel directional waveguide combiner supports the new digital services at CCTV's landmark television tower — the tallest structure in Beijing.

The RFS combiner allows CCTV to combine an existing analog channel (Channel 27) with the new HD sports channel (Channel 32) and SD digital channel (Channel 33). The combined signals are transmitted from a single existing broadband antenna.
