Mankin Media Systems Uses Over 14 Miles of Gepco Cable For New High-Tech Christian Youth Center

LOUISVILLE, KY — When Mankin Media Systems was given the challenge of designing and installing all of the audio, video and lighting for Southeast Christian Church’s new 1,400-seat youth building known as "The Block" in Louisville, Kentucky, they turned to Gepco for all of their cabling needs.

Southeast Christian Church envisioned a youth space that could unite the student community and create a place where teens could worship. Creating a media-rich, blues, club-style environment to connect with students takes thoughtful planning and careful design to solve the technical challenges associated with creating a compelling space.

When selecting a cable manufacturer for the Southeast Christian Church installation, Mankin Media Systems wanted a company with high-performance products capable of supplying over 100,000 feet of cable on time. Gepco's top-of-the line cables, combined with its superior customer service, made it the top choice for the project.

"The Block" is a 75,000 square foot building with six distinct performance/teaching spaces, all of which are interconnected via tie lines that enable content to be displayed and heard anywhere in the building on the nine plasmas, seven projectors and 200+ speakers. The church staff can broadcast from any performance space in the building to any other performance space. In order to make a building of this size functional, over 14 miles of cable was used.

"We've had a long-standing relationship with Gepco and have used its cables for years," said system designer Stephen Roberts. "Gepco's cables provide consistent performance for both video and audio applications, and with a project of this magnitude, we had to feel confident in the products we were using and had to know they would show up on schedule. I am happy to say that Gepco’s cables have performed flawlessly once again."

The list of cables Gepco supplied includes: VSD2001 video coax, 61801EZ single pair audio cable, 12 and 16 AWG audio speaker cable, and DLC224 DMX cable.

"The Block" opened to rave reviews. "Creating a new performance space through the lens of teen sensibilities in a brand new building is always a daunting task," adds Roberts. "Southeast Christian Church sees technology and the compelling environment they created as a way to reach the youth of their community. By balancing the cool factor with functionality without breaking the bank, we created a technology platform for ministry that will serve the Southeast Christian team for years. The Southeast team is thrilled with the delivered capabilities of the new audio and video systems."
