SUR Mexico to Broadcast to U.S. Cable Audience via Genesis Networks

NEW YORK -- Oct. 30, 2007 -- Genesis Networks, a provider of next-generation global video transmission services, today announced that popular Mexican television channel SUR Mexico has begun broadcasting to U.S. cable audiences over the Genesis fiber network. Part of the Sur Corporation group of channels, SUR Mexico is dedicated to offering Mexican immigrants living in the U.S. a window on their home country with a full schedule of news, events, and entertainment programming.

Previously only available to DirecTV satellite subscribers, SUR Mexico has forged the agreement with Genesis Networks to open the channel up to a much wider viewing audience of cable subscribers. Genesis receives the SUR Mexico signal in Miami, Fla., and transmits it to a teleport in Hauppauge, N.Y., where it is uplinked to the Galaxy 23 satellite for distribution to U.S. cable providers. Since the start of the service in July, three cable companies have picked up the SUR Mexico channel with Comcast Chicago leading the way.

According to Genesis Networks Account Executive Michael Riccio, Genesis‘ strong utilization of the Galaxy 23 satellite for Hispanic programming was a major driver in Mexico SUR‘s choice of Genesis Networks. “Since we provide distribution for several other large Hispanic channels via Galaxy 23, it‘s much more cost effective for cable companies because they can pull down multiple channels with a single beam,” he said.

“Our mission is to reach the widest possible audience of expatriate Mexican citizens, in the most cost-effective manner possible,” said Ricardo Samarez, CFO of SUR Mexico. “Genesis Networks was the best choice because it is enabling us to extend our reach to the U.S. viewing audience, while delivering maximum value to our end-user customers -- the cable carriers.”
