Czech Radio Makes The Move To Dalet Radio Suite HD

IBC 2009 Press Announcement

Longtime Dalet customer upgrades infrastructure to Dalet enterprise media asset management based radio solution.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 9, 2009 – Dalet Digital Media Systems announced at the IBC 2009 Exhibition (Stand 8 B.77) that Czech Radio has migrated its central radio broadcast station to the enterprise audio news production and music programming system Dalet Radio Suite HD. A Dalet customer since 1998, Czech Radio is the Czech Republic’s national public radio broadcaster with 6 main radio stations (4 digital on DVB-T) located in Prague and 12 regional stations throughout the country. Phase one of the installation equipped 2 of the Czech Radio Prague stations with the Dalet enterprise asset management based newsroom solution. Dalet’s seamless workflow provides end-to-end news production and playout capabilities with a fluid exchange of content and packages among the 12 local stations.

“The Dalet system delivers an editorial workflow expertly adapted to the audio reporting environment. The integration of Dalet journalist production tools with the Dalet content catalogue provides our large team a very simple way to not only access late breaking stories, but to actually assemble and broadcast these packages on the fly with extreme efficiency,” said Martin Zadrazil, technical director of Czech Radio. “Thanks to the new Dalet upgrade, we now have flexible content making it far easy to use and re-use adding immense value to the final package.”

“We have developed our systems to apply the same principles used for managing content for TV News to Radio News. This means content, regardless of broadcast medium, has to be readily available with detailed metadata information and instructions at any point in the workflow,” said Stephane Schlayen, Chief Operating Officer, Dalet SA. “This is critical strategy for large public broadcasters such as Czech Radio. They have multiple stations, a very dynamic program schedule and a large content catalogue in which assets must be mobile. Dalet has purpose-built solutions to manage these workflows and optimize the use and ultimately the value of assets across even the most complex production chains.”

The Dalet Radio Suite HD upgrade at Czech Radio’s main site integrates the entire production and playout workflow. Production and playout components include multi-channel ingest as well as a robust newsroom computer system for managing incoming wires from Reuters, DPA, AFP and the Czech Press Agency. All content is tagged with detailed metadata and expertly managed by the Dalet content catalog. Over 40 Dalet journalists workstations provide simultaneous access to the late breaking news as well as existing content archives. One hundred plus journalists use Dalet InterWeb to access the same materials from the field. Broadcast of packages are done from three playout studios fully managed by the Dalet OnAir application. Dalet’s automated media management servers ensure central site content and packages are easily shared between the systems central site and 12 local stations.
