Five Emmys were awarded to television programs broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. The sound category Emmy winners were announced on Sept. 12. The 56th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were broadcast Sept. 19.
"We are delighted that many programs broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio have been acknowledged by the Academy with Emmy awards and nominations," said Tom Daily, marketing director, Professional Audio, Dolby Laboratories.
The Emmy for "Outstanding Single--Camera Sound Mixing for a Miniseries or a Movie" went to Angels in America, "Part 2: Perestroika."
The HBO series, "Deadwood" was awarded the Emmy for "Outstanding Sounding Editing for a Series." Another HBO program, "And Starring Pancho Villa As Himself" won the Emmy for "Outstanding Sound Editing for a Miniseries, Movie or Special."
The Emmy for "Outstanding Editing for Nonfiction Programming (Single or Multicamera)" was given to Dinosaur Planet, "Alpha's Egg; Pod's Travel." This Discovery Channel show also won the "Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming (Single or Multicamera)."
