Dolby Integrates Thomson NexGuard

Dolby Laboratories Inc. now offers the option of NexGuard, Thomson’s content security system, in its digital cinema servers. NexGuard watermarking is intended to prevent illegal recordings of digital cinema content, as required by the Digital Cinema Initiative’s (DCI) V1.1 specifications.

The partnership enables Dolby to embed NexGuard’s video forensic watermarking solution in its digital cinema server, which can replay DCI-compliant 2D and 3D digital cinema images. Thomson and Dolby have been working together since 2006.

“Dolby is dedicated to protecting the studios’ intellectual property while providing a superior digital cinema experience to movie-goers,” said John Iles, vice president of cinema at Dolby Laboratories. “By working closely with a leader in digital video technologies such as Thomson, Dolby is able to provide state of the art security across its digital cinema systems.”

Thomson’s NexGuard has been solely designed to serve the media, entertainment and communication industries, according to the company.
