Salt Lake PBS Stations Monitor With Miranda

Montreal--Salt Lake City PBS affiliates KUED-DT and KULC-DT are using Miranda Technologies' Kaleido-K2 multi-image display system for monitoring over-the-air signals. The two channels are run out of consolidated master control facilities at the Eccles Broadcast Center, located on the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
"With one Kaleido-K2 system dedicated to each channel, verifying the signal as it is received back to us, we're able to minimize the personnel necessary for operation of both stations," said chief engineer Phil Titus. "One of the key factors in our choosing the Kaleido-K2 was the ease of monitoring it provides in allowing us to switch from monitoring all streams in our signal to a single stream with just the push of a button. If the operator on duty notices there is a problem, the Kaleido-K2 makes it easy to pull the signal up to full screen for closer examination."
During the conversion to digital, the master control operations for KUED and KULC were brought into one control center, where the Kaleido-K2 allows operators to monitor from a single position streams that are broadcast by the two stations.
