Azteca America Takes Telestream Technology

Telestream tells of a sale to Spanish-language net Azteca America. The transcoder from Nevada City, Calif., said Azteca adopted its FlipFactory and Launch products for distribution of news, from the network’s Los Angeles operations center to its 60 affiliate stations. The network went with Telestream after determining fiber or satellite transmission would be too expensive. FlipFactory and Launch provide enterprise-level transcoding for delivery via an IP format. Azteca employed Telestream Launch on WiFi laptops equipped with Avid editing software. Finished stories are dragged to a desktop Launch folder where they’re automatically transcoded to VC-1, the advanced video codec comparable to MPEG-4, and sent at 2 Mbps to a FlipFactory server at the operations center. Telestream said a two-minute story takes about 10 minutes to transmit and be ready for air.
