Sony introduces new shotgun microphone

Sony unveiled a new addition to its shotgun microphone family at AES. The compact, 9.9-inch ECM-678 works with most professional cameras and camcorders, including the Sony DSR Series of DVCAM camcorders, the PDW-510 and PDW-530 camcorders of the XDCAM Professional Disc System, and Sony’s upcoming professional HDV camcorder. The microphone comes with a range of accessories, including a windscreen, holder, spacer and carrying case. Other features include a newly developed microphone capsule, allowing the mic to deliver sensitivity of -28dB and extremely low inherent noise of less than 16dB SPL, a flat-and-wide frequency response of 40Hz to 20kHz, and a compact design.
