SoftBank establishes company to study MediaFLO

SoftBank Group is setting up a new company called Mobile Media Planning Corp. to conduct a technical study of MediaFLO and plan a new service using MediaFLO technology.

MediaFLO, developed by QUALCOMM, is a technology for efficient multi-channel broadcast, including clipcasts to mobile phones. MediaFLO enables about 20 channels of real-time broadcasting in 6MHz of bandwidth.

Mobile Media Planning will offer planning services for MediaFLO through the mobile business of the SoftBank Group. It will actively conduct technical studies of MediaFLO through participation in a working group at the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication focused on multimedia broadcasting technologies.
