SMPTE group issues second information request on lip sync concerns

A SMPTE group investigating lip sync problems that have surfaced during the DTV transition has issued a second request for information from manufacturers.

The SMPTE Television Systems Technology Ad Hoc Group on Lip Sync Issues is seeking information specifically related to control signals and interfaces for equipment that vary audio and/or video signal delay to facilitate audio-video synchronization. The request for information is the second issued this year.

The SMPTE group intends to produce a standard or recommended practice for control signals to ensure equipment interoperability.

The request and associated questionnaire is available at www.smpte.org/engineering_committees/lipsync2.pdf.
