Yankees Put Their Money Where Their HD Is

The new Yankee Stadium nearing Opening Day (April 16) in the Bronx adjacent to the original "house that Ruth built" boasts an expensive piece of hardware that is bound to be a conversation-starter: a huge 1080p Mitsubishi Diamond Vision LED display.

In fact, the HD screen is so large that now all diehard Yankee fans are happy about it, according to published reports. A few critics think its dominant positioning in the outfield could distract fans, players and even the umpires from the game itself down on the field.

The 103-by-58-foot display is six times larger than the screen at the old stadium. That's a lot of LED lamps—more than 8.6 million to be exact, according to Mitsubishi, covering more than 5,900 square feet.

The big screen has up to 4-in-1 video capabilities and PIP.

No less than 1,440 other HD screens (albeit of the more typical living room variety) will be situated throughout the new ballpark, including more than 500 Sony Bravia monitors. All the displays are being managed with an IP-based network created by Cisco Systems.
