Wohler monitoring used during Summer Olympics

The host broadcaster for the 2008 Beijing Games purchased and deployed dozens of Wohler audio and video monitoring systems across 37 different venues to support confidence and contribution-feed monitoring. In total, 125 MON4-2W/HR high-resolution display monitors and 17 AMP1-S8MDA audio monitors supported live broadcasts from in and around Beijing.

The MON4-2W/HR is a four-display, high-resolution color video monitor capable of monitoring either SD-SDI or HD-SDI signals using an all-digital signal processing (DSP) path in 2RU. The monitor's 4.3in wide-format LCD panels are situated side by side in cylinders that may be rotated approximately ±30 degrees in the vertical plane for optimum operator viewing angles. Dedicated recessed controls enable adjustment of contrast and brightness for each panel. The MON4-2W/HR features a native 16:9 aspect ratio and offers selection between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios for SD-SDI signals as well as tally indicators and independent power and input termination switches.

Wohler's AMP1-S8MDA is a complete audio monitoring solution capable of monitoring audio from HD-SDI, SD-SDI, AES/EBU and analog signal sources. The 1RU system processes and monitors up to eight channels from an HD-SDI or SD-SDI bit stream, two sets of four AES/EBU signal pairs (balanced and unbalanced) or eight balanced analog channels. Eight high-resolution, 26-segment tricolor LED bar graph audio-level meters provide instant visual feedback. A convenient high-contrast LCD display on the front panel shows the user settings and status, type of signal, channel selection, mute status and phase/correlation.
