WNBC, Telemundo Are First In-Flight Network Broadcasters
By TVTechnology published
JetBlue Airways, NBC and DIRECTV Inc. have partnered to make New York-based WNBC the first broadcast network channel to air live, in-flight on a commercial airline. NBC-owned Telemundo is the first Spanish-language network to hold that distinction.
Jet Blue passengers each have access to satellite television provided by DirecTV Airborne at their seats. NBC and Telemundo have been added to the programming carried, which includes CNBC and MSNBC among approximately 24 available channels. The airline is based out of New York and lists 19 destinations. By adding WNBC, native New Yorkers can watch local news and programming at any time.
DirectTV Airborne is a programming service for commercial airlines provided by DirecTV. It was launched in 2000, and is delivered through the LiveTV in-flight entertainment system.
