Well, at least the turkey was pardoned...

Democrat Jonathan Adelstein has yet to be confirmed as a new member of the FCC... but the president did take time over the holidays to pardon "Katie," the 30-pound female turkey designated to be exempt from Thanksgiving execution.
These are mighty tough days for Democrats in Washington D.C. After the momentary excitement of finally being confirmed as a new member of the FCC by the U.S. Senate a couple of weeks ago, Jonathan Adelstein — the Democrat who suffered the indignity of being a pawn in a political appointments game — is back to waiting.
It seems President Bush has been so busy with other matters that he hasn’t found time to sign the final paperwork needed for Adelstein to be sworn in as a commissioner. It appears the fifth FCC member of the Commission will have to continue his wait.
At least the President found time to pardon “Katie,” the 30-pound female turkey designated to be exempt from Thanksgiving execution. Katie, who the President called “a fine looking turkey” as he signed the pardon papers, spent the holiday comfortably at Kidwell Farm in Frying Pan Park in Herndon, VA.
Mr. Adelstein’s turkey treatment has not been so kind.
