ViewSonic Debuts 24-Inch 1080p

The continuing lack of any 1080p content for consumers (with the notable exception of Blu-ray) has hardly made the 1080p option the orphan child of the CE industry this year. Indeed, 1080p (still being marketed as “Full HD” until a fuller HD comes along) is becoming ubiquitous in HD products—at least judging from much of available product on holiday store shelves this season. So perhaps it’s of little surprise that sooner or later, someone would start offering 1080p with smaller screens.

ViewSonic this week is launching a 24-inch LCD HD set with 1080p that carries MSRP of about $400. Whether 1080p quality can actually be discerned as better on a 24-inch screen over a comparably sized 720p (or 1080i) monitor may be in the eye of the beholder. ViewSonic is marketing the 2-foot diagonal screen as “the other TV set” for a bedroom or bathroom.

The model (VT2430) includes 10,000:1 contrast ratio, an integrated ATSC/NTSC/QAM TV tuner, and multiple connection options—including HDMI 1.3.
