Verizon Obtains FiOS Franchise in Falls Church

Verizon this week added another northern Virginia community to its growing list of FiOS franchises, garnering unanimous approval from the town of Falls Church, Va. for its high speed fiber optic broadband and video service.

"The Falls Church City Council's action will enable residents to choose their cable TV provider as easily as they now choose their phone provider. We commend Mayor Gardner, the city staff and the City Council for their efforts to give their constituents freedom of choice for their cable service," said Robert W. Woltz Jr., president of Verizon Virginia.

Falls Church isn't the first to receive this option in northern Virginia. Last year, Verizon also received franchise approval in Fairfax County, the city of Fairfax, the town of Herndon and Marine Corps Base at Quantico. The company has also obtained franchise approvals in Texas, California, Florida, Maryland and Massachusetts.

FiOS TV service offers more than 330 digital channels, more than 20 high-definition channels and 1,800 video-on-demand titles.
